From Line to Life

A 15-second hand-drawn animation developed from pencil tests through final frames, with every drawing created from scratch.

I drew the animation frame by frame, starting with rough pencil tests to work out the movement and timing before cleaning and finishing the sequence.

Title card from the finished From Line to Life animation: hand-lettered title text over an illustrated bedroom scene, with a woman seated in an armchair drawing in a sketchbook.

Final Animation

Pencil Test

The pencil test let me work through the timing and movement before committing to the final drawings.

Building the Sequence

These process images show the hand-drawn animation on the animation disc and the painted artwork during production.

Background Painting

A hand-drawn and watercolored background made for From Line to Life: a woman in a pink blouse and cream skirt stands at a stone balcony overlooking a sunset view of Florence, with the Duomo and a bell tower in the distance, framed by potted plants.

Additional Animation Studies

Alongside the final animation, I completed shorter exercises focused on different kinds of movement and timing.
